As news reverberates that Donald Trump posted an edited GIF that showed him clotheslining CNN's logo, many people have speculated on where exactly it came from.

Although, Trump does have a social media team and advisors - if you can call them that - this is the first time since being elected President that he's posted something resembling a meme on his official Twitter. CNN's Brian Stelter, who hosts the media show Reliable Sources, discovered where the original GIF came.

 

Reddit. Specifically, the Trump-supporting subreddit r/The_Donald.

The subreddit is heavily aligned with the Alt-Right and white nationalists, and was responsible for propagating the Pizzagate conspiracy theory which eventually lead to a shooting inside the Comet Ping-Pong Restaurant in Washington D.C. As well as this, r/The_Donald also regularly hosts racist, homophobic content. In fact, the creator of the GIF - who goes by the name HanAssholeSolo - is a regular contributor on the subreddit.

Meanwhile, CNN has responded to Trump's tweet. In a statement, CNN said that it was a "sad day when the President of the United States encourages violence against reporters."

"Clearly, Sarah Huckabee Sanders lied when she said the President had never done so. Instead of preparing for his overseas trip, his first meeting with Vladimir Putin, ‎dealing with North Korea and working on his health care bill, he is involved in juvenile behavior far below the dignity of his office."

"We will keep doing our jobs. He should start doing his."
