Lewis was known for his self-deprecating manner

Sad news this morning as it was announced yesterday evening that comedian and actor Richard Lewis has died at the age of 76.

The self-deprecating star was born in Brooklyn in 1947 and his lengthy career began in the 1970s as a stand-up - but he has had many famous acting roles over the years - most recently (and famously) as a version of himself in ‘Curb Your Enthusiasm’.

Lewis’s most recent appearance in the show was in the current series, where he jokes with Larry that he has left him in his will - which Larry assumes is a ploy to be included in Larry’s own will.

Lewis battled addiction problems earlier in his life and in recent years has suffered from various health issues. He announced last year that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease in 2021 and was retiring from stand-up. His cause of death has been revealed as a heart attack suffered at his Los Angeles home on Tuesday.

Tributes from his friends, fans and colleagues have poured in since his death was announced, some of which you can see below.

RIP.
