In a surprising twist of events, we've learned this morning that Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes have dramatically settled their divorce and will no longer have to endure a long and bitter court battle.
Who gets what? Well put simply they've signed a deal. As per The Sun - despite Katie intially demanding sole custory of Suri, to keep her away from Scientology, with this deal Tom, 50 has won himself generous visitation rights.
The pair sat with their lawyers around the clock over the weekend and decided that Katie would walk away with up to £10million which when you add it to her personal wealth of £15million, makes a hefty sum of £25million. Not too bad. But then when you think about the fact that as a married couple their assets amounted to something like £175million, maybe she's not getting that great a deal after all.
The Sun say Katie spent six hours in her lawyers' Manhattan office on Saturday, leaving the building at around 6pm wearing a 'barely-disguised grin'. So we'll assume she must be happy enough.
But it's not all about the mula for Katie. Apparently Tom caved in to many of her demands to prevent Scientology from affecting herself and her daughter. A source told The Sun "He has gone quietly." There are also claims that Tom will not be allowed to subject Suri to his religious beliefs and practises. Furthermore, a US website reveal that Suri MUST be accompanied by her nanny and bodyguards when visiting him. A source revealed: "Suri isn't permitted to be exposed to anything Scientology related." Quite sad really when you think about it, the effect that Scientology has had on his family.
The pair, commenting on their different views on religion made the following statement: "We want to express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs."
Well we thought some serious sh*t would go down with all of this but as it turns out, it has all been quietly settled. Holmes' lawyer Jonathan Wolfe has commended Cruise's team for their "professionalism and diligence."
"The case has been settled and the agreement has been signed... We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life... We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution."
Finally Katie, you may go free. YIPEEEE!
