All is fair in love and war it seems.
Tinder are swiping right on a new feature that looks very like something rival dating app Bumble already has.
The ‘Ladies First’ setting will now allow women on Tinder to make the first move if they so wish. Bumble already has the setting as a default whereas Tinder will give women the option of being the first to initiate contact.
“Often, women don’t really want the pressure of kicking off the conversation, but if they want it, that’s great. Giving people the choice versus telling people how to engage is the big difference,” said Mandy Ginsburg, CEO of Tinder parent company Match.
The setting was Bumble’s USP and saw them enjoy huge growth in recent years. And if things weren’t already awkward enough between the rivals, Tinder’s CEO Sean Rad just happens to be the former business partner and ex-boyfriend of Bumble CEO Whitney Wolfe.
Last year Tinder introduced the very creepy Super Like feature and in August launched Tinder Gold which allows users to see who swiped right on them for a fee. Ladies First will be included in a future update of the app.
