The Leaving Cert is set to reduce the possible number of grades from the current 14, to just 8.
The grades will range from one to eight, with Higher 1-7 earning a pass, while Ordinary 1-6 will do the same. The extra passing grade at higher level gives students the incentive to attempt the tougher paper, as a score of 30%-40% will now earn you a pass in Higher Level only.
Here's the breakdown of the new scoring system, which will come into practice in 2017, so it applies to students entering fifth year this month.
