Can't say we're hugely surprised at this - it all sounded too good to be true.

You may recall yesterday how Niall Boylan's show on 4FM was lit up with callers following a man "admitting" live on air that he was cheating on his wife with several of her friends.

Naturally, social media picked up on the man's indiscretions and the abuse came thick and fast.

Boylan himself sounded incredulous about the whole, but sure enough, it turned out be just that - total lies.

In a recent interview, the man behind the stunt - Michael McLoughlin - admitted that he made the whole thing up on the spot.

"I didn't think it would go that far, I just went on for a laugh. I thought I'd hang up the phone and that would be it."

"It wasn't until the next day when it was all over the papers that I realised how well it went."

No doubt Boylan and the producers of his show have got egg on their faces this morning, having been suckered in by this jokester.

Here's the audio in question, in case you haven't heard it.
