For those of you who have been living under the warmth of your dressing gowns for the last few days, surrounded by a sea of crumpled up Roses' wrappers - apparently Debenhams conducted research that showed how we dress ourselves on average of three times between Christmas and New Year -  it appears Sinead O'Connor's 'dream' fourth marriage to youth counsellor Barry Herridge has come to an end. After just 16 days! Not even the spirit of Christmas and all that yuletide romance was enough to keep them going, at least til New Years Eve.

While the news broke over Christmas, updates today reveal how the marriage was on a fast track to splitsville just three hours after their Las Vegas ceremony given how those closest to her hubby tried to 'kybosh' it. Sure they'd almost give Britney and Jason Alexander a run for their money. The outspoken singer took to her website on Christmas Eve - of all days like! - to announce that it was over. This is what she said:

"There was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me. These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about "Sinéad O'Connor" in the media, etc'. [In fairness to them, love, you've hardly marketed yourself as ideal marriage material. Throwing yourself at Ryan Tubridy and whatnot.] But she admitted that her husband had also been very upset by a ‘wild ride’ they took to try and buy marijuana on their wedding night, as she doesn’t drink alcohol.

Another reason that's led to the split is that her husband was said to be upset after Sinéad took him on a 'wild ride' to get high on the night of their wedding, which was also her 45th birthday. Poor fellow.

"My husband was enormously wounded and very badly affected by that experience and also by the attitude of those close to him toward our marriage." said O'Connor on her website. Sinead says she's sorry she's "not a more regular woman" and that Barry is "too nice to trap."

Unfortunately for her 'wounded' and 'trapped' husband, he'll be waiting quite some time before his life of normalcy can resume. The pain in the hoop that is our legal system requires the pair to endure a four year separation period before the divorce is granted, with the hopes that the flame between them will reignite.

What do you reckon, folks, is there any hope for our Sinead and Barry?
