However he told the bosses that he attacked a man when it was really his ex Amy Edwards.
As is stands, ITV have faced criticism from abuse charities and bosses spent hours in meetings to decide what legally should be done but they came to the decision that he could keep his money as he declared the convictions. A source close to Cowell told UK newspaper Daily Mirror: "It is felt a contribution to the person who suffered might be an appropriate way to address this problem. "They need to stop the cheque, admit they made a bad error, apologise and move on."
