A serving senior civil servant has brought a dossier forward to the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) which claims that several high-level government figures have evaded tax.

The dossier of files brought forward for inspection by the PAC alleges that government figures, including senior politicians, have been engaging in tax evasion over a number of years, and that the files highlighted the use of a system by "senior politicians to evade Irish taxation in very significant amounts over many years. They also reveal that investigations of these matters were halted before completion, and that requests to resume those investigations were refused."

The Irish Times report that they tried to contact the civil servant but they declined to comment in light of this news emerging. There are counter claims that these cases have already been fully investigated, but it seems that after considering the contents of the dossier in a private session yesterday, the PAC have decided to pass the information on to the parliamentary legal team for further consideration.

According to the Times, the documents show the existence of "secret bank accounts held for the benefit of a number of TDs and at least one former minister" which the civil servant who submitted the dossier believes need to be properly investigated.
