Selena Gomez recently ‘made history’ by having the most liked Instagram pic ever (with 4.6 million likes, the post knocked her ex Justin Bieber off the most-liked hotspot). It wasn’t even a selfie, it was, like, an ad for Coke basically, but whatever. She looked purty and got PAID.
According to Adweek, Gomez received $550,000 for sharing the image across Instagram, Twitter and Facebook. Which is reportedly $300,000 more than Cara Delevigne, Kendall Jenner and Taylor Swift could have charged last December.
But what makes Selena stand out from her Insta-tastic peers like Taylor Swift and Gigi Hadid and the like? Just her little old ways, apparently. She spoke to the Hollywood Reporter about her social media success: here are her top tips.
You don’t need a social media consultant (that’s a thing? How do we get in on that game?), just be ‘on’ the entire time. Selena Gomez just finds herself in some crazy sitch and thinks, “Oh, that would be great for Instagram.” Words of wisdom, right there.
It’s not just the image that matters; it’s the caption. Damn it, but thinking of words is hard. Selena’s solution, if you can’t think of anything to write: use emoji!
If you want 9 million views, use the new long video function. All Selena did was walk into a party and jump into the pool and bang! Insta-histoire.
Be (a well-lit version of) yourself, is the main message, says Selena. “I try to find a good balance of just being 100 percent myself and knowing when to post a really good selfie with good lighting.”
“I’ve created this bond with [my tour photographer], so it’s super organic when he takes photos. We were in the grocery store, all shopping for the bus, and I always eat when I shop. I remember one of the comments said, ‘I cannot believe she rented out the grocery store for a photo shoot,’ and I died laughing. I was like, ‘Well, I didn’t.’ ”
