Tensions have been pretty high between supporters of Trump versus Clinton. Meryl Streep has said in the past, for example, that she would need to give Clint Eastwood a firm talking to after learning of his support for the Republican nominee.
Now, according to Variety, there was an awkward incident at the VIP cocktail reception for the 10th annual Friends of the Israel Defense Forces Western Regional Gala held Thursday at the Beverly Hilton.
De Niro allegedly refused to take a photo with fellow actor Schwarzenegger and told him ‘If you’re supporting Trump, I want nothing to do with you.’
Schwarzenegger is a dedicated Republican, but recently indicated on Twitter that he would not be voting for Trump, although he hasn’t confirmed who he will be voting for.
De Niro reportedly repeatedly asked Schwarzenegger ‘Are you voting for Trump?’ and refused to listen to the former California governor’s explanation, instead walking to another part of the room.
De Niro also stated ‘If you’re not part of the solution, then you’re part of the problem.’
The whole election has an uncomfortable, unfriendly feel to it and Larry King, another of the 1,200 guests who attended the sold-out, star-studded event, stated: ‘This is the worst election I’ve ever seen.
‘Donald [Trump] has run a terrible campaign. There’s a lot of racism and sexism. Hillary has been on the defensive back and forth. Neither one is well liked — I’ve never seen anything like this. People are voting against — not for.’
