When you need to back up your theories, speculation or general nonsense about this weekend's sporting action, then you might be able to find a useful stat here...but maybe not.
We'll start in Germany where Pep Gaurdiola's Bayern Münich have been detroying all who come before them, crushing them like crisps under bison. This weekend, it was the turn of Hoffenheim to receive a comprehensive 4-0 beatdown from his side, and it was such a one-sided affair that goalkeeper Manuel Neuer ended up with an impressive stat next to his name: he had more touches of the ball than any of Hoffenheim's players with 55, the closest the opposition could muster was Firmino's 54, according to German paper Ran. He also made 30 passes, just a few less than Hoffenheim's best passer Süle, who made 33.
It seems that hardly a weekend goes by where one of either Messi or Ronaldo aren't breaking some sort of record, and this one just gone was no exception. He had been closing in on the record for a while, but the Argentine superstar is now the leading goalscorer in the history of the Spanish league, which is an incredible achievement, considering he has so many more years left in him.

He could have had even more too if he'd put away this goal, off a sublime pass from Neymar.
He tried to play it cool at the end of the game, but his team-mates forced him back on to the pitch to receive the applause of a packed Camp Nou.
Liverpool fans have had another bad weekend after they suffered a 3-1 defeat away to Crystal Palace, and the pressure is beginning to grown on manager Brendan Rodgers. While results are the main factor, Liverpool's static play and the inability to create good scoring chances is also drawing comparisons with another much-maligned manager of one of their fiercest rivals, Manchester United, and the stats don't make pleasant reading for the Carnlough man.
In the NFL, it's been a strange season for Washington, who have had to go deep down the depth chart thanks to injuries at the QB position. That has lead to them having one of the weirder statistics to their name, or, more accurately to Colt McCoy's name, after they lost again last night to the San Francisco 49ers, their eighth defeat of the season.
Colt McCoy is the only Redskins' QB this season to start and finish a game as the winning QB.

Sticking with American football, one of the stranger stats of the weekend came from Tom Brady, a player who will definitely be headed to the Hall of Fame when he retires. However, 14 years ago to the day yesterday (November 23rd), he made his debut in the league, and it wasn't a brilliant start as they lost 34-9.
Those were not his finest passes, but he did eventually replaced Patriots QB Drew Bledsoe on a permanent basis a year later, and the rest is history. Oh, did we mention that yesterday (November 23rd) Brady and his team beat the Detroit Lions by a scoreline of...you guessed it: 34-9.
And finally, turning our attention to the rugby, the most important stat was the scoreboard at the end of the game, as Ireland beat Australia, but that was the first time that Ireland have had a clean sweep in the autumn internationals since 2006, which is something that will put a smile on Irish faces. We also wish Joe Schmidt a quick recovery after his appendix operation after the match. Three wins out of three for the Ireland manager recently, but one less appendix than he started the series with.
