The SNL star made the revelation in his new Netflix special
Pete Davidson's brand of comedy has proven divisive at the best of times, but the SNL star revealed a controversial story during his new Netflix stand-up special.
In 'Turbo Fonzarelli', Davidson reveals that he was in attendance at the funeral of Aretha Franklin as his then-fiance Ariana Grande was performing at it.
However, he disclosed that it was during a period where he was reguarly taking ketamine - a three-year-long period - and he was high at the funeral of the soul legend.
"It's embarrassing when you’re not on ketamine anymore, though… I’m embarrassed," he said. "I was out and about like that. That’s not cool, you know? I was at funerals like that. That’s fucked up, right? I was at Aretha Franklin’s funeral like that. Yeah, I have to live with that. You know what I mean? She’ll never know, but still, that’s not the point."
Davidson added that he was so high that when he met Franklin's family, he thought it was the perfect opportunity to crack a bad joke, saying:"I’m so high, I thought it would be a good idea to go up to her family and go, ‘Hey, I’m just here to pay my R-E-S-P-E-C-T…S".
His relationship with pop star Grande lasted from May to October 2018.
But hey, at least he got some stand-up material out of it, right...?
