New research has found what many would claim to have know for years, living near a pub makes your happier.

A study from Oxford University found that people who have a nearby or 'local' pub are happier, have more friends and are more satisfied in life. The study also found that people who live near their 'local' drink in moderation compared to those who haven't.

Unsurprisingly, the report revealed that people's social skills improve after a drink and those who go to a smaller community pub engage in more conversation than they would in a larger pub.

Professor Robin Dunbar of Oxford University, commented that:

Friendship and community are probably the two most important factors influencing our health and wellbeing. Making and maintaining friendships, however, is something that has to be done face-to-face.Given the increasing tendency for our social life to be online, having relaxed, accessible venues where people can meet old friends and make new ones becomes ever more necessary.

So there you have it. If your local area is missing a pub, be sure to make it a priority to show this research to your local TDs.

This research aside, it's also been proven that your local is the safest place to wait out a zombie apocalypse.
