The steps were made famous by Joaquin Phoenix's character dancing down them
If you've seen 'Joker', you'll be aware that in one scene, Joaquin Phoenix theatrically dances down a very long set of steps.
These steps are in the New York borough of The Bronx, and considering just how huge 'Joker' has been, it was inevitable that fans of the film would flock to such a striking location.
However, it seems that locals weren't counting on just how popular the spot on 167th Street would be... so much so, that the steps (or stairs, as Americans call them) formerly known as 'the 167 stairs' have now been renamed the 'Joker Stairs' on Google.
People have been posting their own takes on Joker's dance...

Not everyone is happy about the neighbourhood's newfound status as a famous film location, though...

It’s really called the Joker Stairs on google now (I just searched it).
Please, if you’re reading this and you’re not from around here (or ever been to the Bronx, Yankee stadium does not count) PLEASE DO NOT COME HERE.
Thanks,
