Naomi Campbell broke down in tears as she claimed her fiery temper is down to 'abandonment issues.'
The the 39-year-old pile of lithe limbs sobbed and held her head in her hands as she sat down for an hour-long heart-to-heart with talkshow queen/public confessional conduite Oprah Winfrey. In the audience was Campbell's mother Valeria Morris and boyfriend Vladimir Doronin.
Oprah didn't to hold back on the supermodel, saying "Are you just a petulant diva, and if you don't get things your own way, you feel you have the right to throw things?" Campbell replied: "I think it comes from a deeper place than that with me. It comes from another type of emotional disorder, because it's not just, 'I don't get what I want. I throw.' It comes from, I think, an abandonment issue, and it comes from also just trying to build up a family around me that's not my immediate family. And if I feel a mistrust, then I really just - all my cards go down. It's not an excuse. I don't have an excuse for my behaviour." You could try the diva thing, people would definitely buy that excuse.
Campbell's mother, watching from the audience, said she felt she had played a part in her daughter's at-times unstable behaviour. She explained to Oprah that she was a 19-year-old single mother when Naomi was born and in an attempt to give her a better life, she was not around in her formative years.
"I do feel that I abandoned her," Morris said.
It's always handy to have someone to blame. Or you could just get help, grow up and move on. Just a thought.
