Yeah, it's not really a shocker given they've been separated since the whole anti-Semitic "sweet t*ts" DUI incident. Mel's wife of 28 years, Robyn, serving him with divorce papers on Holy Thursday is a surprising touch, though.
So, what's changed since August 2006? (That's when they reportedly parted ways). Well, Mel's been photographed frolicking in the surf with a "mystery brunette", which "Hollywood insiders" claim to be a Russian musician called Oksana, who the actor has signed to his record label, Icon. These claims have, of course, been denied (primarily based on the fact that Oksana is blonde).
Maybe Robyn just fancied the wedge she's legally entitled to considering they married in 1980, without a whiff of a pre-nup (that means Mel could very well part with half of everything he owns. A small fee for bearing seven children, if you ask me). Sources say the actor's now worth $900 million, and "owns a £28 million church in Malibu and a £10 million island in Fiji". According to Robyn's papers, she also "wants joint custody of Tom (the youngest of their flock) as well as spousal support and legal fees".
Mel and Robyn released a statement yesterday, saying: "Throughout our marriage and separation we have always strived to maintain the privacy and integrity of our family (bar that wee booze-induced hiccup in July 2006) and will continue to do so."
