Fans have been laying flowers at the 'Friends' building in New York
The long weekend brought incredibly sad news that actor Matthew Perry had passed away unexpectedly at the age of 54.
Over the last day or two, fans and colleagues of the 'Friends' star - who was found unresponsive in a hot tub at his home on Saturday - have been paying tribute to him.
His 'Friends' co-stars did not respond immediately, but yesterday evening released a joint statement to People magazine saying that they were 'utterly devastated' by his death and would 'say more, when we are able.'
"We are all so utterly devastated by the loss of Matthew. We were more than just cast mates. We are a family," said Jennifer Aniston, Matt Le Blanc, Courteney Cox and David Schwimmer. "There is so much to say, but right now we’re going to take a moment to grieve and process this unfathomable loss."
The statement continued: "In time we will say more, as and when we are able. For now, our thoughts and our love are with Matty’s family, his friends, and everyone who loved him around the world."
Perry's co-star Maggie Wheeler, who played his occasional love interest Janice in the sitcom, also posted a tribute to the actor, while many others posted about his work outside of 'Friends', and his advocacy for addiction recovery.
Fans, meanwhile, have been laying flowers outside the 'Friends' building in New York.
