A man who was having trouble getting it up thought that the best course of action would be to stick a metal rod in there.
Kang Niu, a 52-year-old man who was struggling with his impotence decided to find a method of treatment that would be bottom of most people's lists: he inserted a 13-centimetre long steel rod with an opening down the middle of it into his penis.
Now, we don't know nor do we want to know the levels of pain that he inflicted on himself in this endeavour, but he told medics at the Second Hospital in the Chinese city of Hengyang, where he went for treatment, that he felt that his trouble getting an erection was the reason he couldn't keep any of his girlfriends.
The plan, unsurprisingly, backfired the first time he attempted to have intercourse and sent the steel rod shooting backwards in to his bladder. Despite the excruciating pain, he didn't seek medical attention for several months as he hoped he would be able to simply pass the rod back out again without help. This didn't work, obviously, and when the pain became to much he went to hospital where surgeons performed what they classed as a "relatively simple" operation to remove the rod.
No word on whether or not any long-term damage was done to any of his organs, however.
