Elaine Murphy’s “Little Gem”, the runaway success of the 2008 Dublin Fringe Festival, is back and it’s coming to The Wexford Opera House on Friday March 20th.
The heart-warming tale of courage, comedy and romance was the first ever Irish production to receive the prestigious Carol Tambor Award at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and now you have a chance to see it for yourself, or catch it again if you were lucky to see the original run.
The play unfolds in alternating monologues, as three generations of Irish women, played by Anita Reeves and Hilda Fay with Kate Gilmore, greet life’s travails with strength, humour and the occasional vodka and Diet Coke or night of abandon on the salsa dance floor.
Party girl Amber has brutal indigestion that the sambucas won’t shift. Lorraine loses it at work and is shipped off to see the ‘head doctor’. While Granny Kay ‘toys with the idea of Kermit’ scratching an itch that her beloved Gem no longer can.
Be prepared to be enthralled and entertained in this revealing, poignant and hilarious play.
Tickets are available for €18 and you can get them by going online at WexfordOperaHouse.com or by calling the box office on (053) 912 2144.
