Katie Taylor is guaranteed to come home from the World Women's Elite Championships with at least a bronze medal after she got a walkover in to the semifinals this morning.
Her opponent, Sofya Ochigava, was due to weigh in this morning for their bout today in the final eight, but having sustained an injury in her previous fight she was unable to do so, giving Katie the walkover.
It would have been a grudge match, of sorts, given that Ochigava was not pleased to have lost to Taylor in 2012, but now Taylor will go through to to face China's Junhua Yin in the semi-finals on Sunday.
The final will be held on Monday, should Katie be able to get through, but her father and coach Peter Taylor seemed a bit disappointed to get the walkover rather than getting a stern test and keeping the momentum going: "it is what it is. After the contest yesterday I actually pointed out to Katie and I said to her that Ochigava wouldn’t fight today."
