While most of us were still in bed this morning, Katie Taylor was off winning yet another gold medal at the World Championship as she continues to cement her place as the greatest female boxer of all time.
The Bray native now has a fifth world championship gold medal to add to her already impressive collection after she was victorious in the AIBA World Elite lightweight final against Yana Allekseevana this morning. Her amazing achievement has been recognised by many of Ireland's sporting greats, and her father and coach Peter was the first to comment on her outstanding career to date.
Speaking to Radio One this morning, he said "five world titles, what can you say? She is unbelievable, a legend". Billy Walsh, head of the High Performance Unit of Irish Boxing said that Katie is by far and away at the top of her field: "She knows her competitors have been chasing her for 10 years now...I think we are in the midst of seeing the greatest ever athlete that Ireland has ever produced."
They weren't the only ones who were doling out the praise today, as fellow fighter and MMA star Conor McGregor noted that she was an inspiration to every athlete.

Speaking to Darren O'Neill of the Irish Sports Council after the bout, Taylor was thankful and humble, as she always is, and wanted to express her gratitude for all the fans back at home who were rooting for her all the way.
