A judge in Smith County, Texas handed down an incredibly unusual sentence to a young man in a recent sitting.

Judge Randall Rogers ordered Josten Bundy, who was up in court over charges of assault against an ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend, Elizabeth Jaynes, to marry his girlfriend within 30 days or face jailtime.

The ruling also included a provision that Bundy had to write out pieces from the Bible in order to fulfil his probation.

Bundy admitted that he assaulted his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend when she was 'disrespectful' to her, stating that he should have known better.

The couple followed out the ruling and were married within the 30 days, however both Bundy and the girlfriend's father have criticised the ruling as they had no time prepare a ceremony that they wanted.

Despite this, Bundy has no regrets about marrying - simply that he was unable to invite members of his family in time for the wedding.

Meanwhile, a local lawyer, Blake Bailey, has analysed the ruling and found it to be illegal. "It sounds like the old days of shotgun weddings, but not even the judge is capable of enforcing, what he thinks is best for some people in his court," explained Bailey.

The marriage, however, has already gone through and Bundy escaped jailtime.

It's definitely one story that you might not want the grandchildren knowing about.
