The reaction to Jimmy Carr's latest controversial joke has been less than pleasant for the comedian after his performance at the Q Awards earlier this week went down like a lead balloon.
Carr took to the stage on Tuesday at the Q Awards to present an award and began his monologue with a couple of lines about needing to go to the toilet before he'd taken the stage, but that there had been a big queue.
According to The Independent, he added that it was "So frustrating. All I’m saying is I can see it from Oscar Pistorius’ point of view."
While that was controversial enough and the audience seemed to be shifting uncomfortably in their chairs, he wasn't finished, adding "That’s not the controversial bit. Here it comes…I blame her. If she hadn’t been in that disabled toilet none of this would have happened." The joke was met with silence and clearly didn't get the reaction that he had hoped for, adding "It’s the f****** Q Awards, come on!".
The incident has since gotten plenty of attention, and speaking to The Mirror in the aftermath of the event, he said that "I think it went all right. I’m going to go home and write some new jokes".
The timing of the joke in particular seemed to annoy many, as Pistorius had only recently been sentenced to a five-year jail term for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, and many legal experts are stating that he could end up serving as little as 10 months of that sentence. In particular women's rights groups were upset with the verdict, and Carr's joke may well have those same groups speaking out about his attempt at humour too.
