Blighty's answer to Kei$ha (Ok, she might be slightly more talented) played a slot at Friday's Trinity BallĀ (social shots of tuxedo sporting sorts can be seen here) and was unsurprisingly shocked at what she witnessed from the stage.
She posted the following on Twitter, which must've taken her quite a few posts as there's roughly 850 characters with spaces in this lot:
"Just came off stage at trinity ball. Probably one of the hardest gigs to date. To see so many people so drunk they couldn't even stand. Girls unconscious and (students were) literally trampling on each other. It wasn't easy... I'm not upset they weren't all listening. It upset me to see so many young people so not with it. I'm not used to it. It's hard to sing when I just wanted to go into the crowd and help all the crying girls who were being squashed... Can I just clear up that last night was a university ball and it was students. I was just shocked at how intoxicated they were and I was genuinely worried for them. I'm not used to it. That's all... And it's not just in Ireland, its everywhere. As a non drinker, I just want to spread the message that binge drinking is dangerous. I just care."
Niall Breslin of The Blizzards then Tweeted: "Welcome to Ireland." He probably didn't clock Jessie's previous post in which she stated "and it's not just in Ireland", but that's alright cause a) he's kind of got a point, and b) he's pretty.
As for Jessie's sentiments, I couldn't agree with her more, we're all piddle heads - much like our neighbours, because the vast majority have bugger all inclination to do much else that involves venturing outside during the winter months (apart from going to the cinema. Imagine if we were allowed to booze in there?). Then, come the spring/"summer", habits are very hard to break... Also, years of being genetically depressed haven't helped matters. Oh, and who's been raised to have an "off" switch in this country? Precious few. As for the cyclical, nonsensical, repetitive, BORING, and increasingly loud conversations that occur in a pub setting, well, they would drive the designated one to the edge of reason...
Not that I'm making excuses, mind, more highlighting the fact that we're all far too accepting of it in this country, mainly because - if there's someone more hammered than you - then you're not the one with the problem. Happy days! Who feels like celebrating?!?
