Birthday giddle Keira Knightley, who turned 26 on Saturday, was awarded for her heroism at last night's Jameson Empire Film Awards. Yep, heroism.

During her acceptance speech, she said: "It was my birthday yesterday, so I want to thank Empire for such a brilliant birthday present; to be made a hero on your 26th birthday is fantastic. I want to thank my agent, who's here tonight. Also, I'm well up for a birthday snog, so please come and find me on table 14! Thank you!" That might explain why she departed the stage lips primed and puckered. 'Cause Keira hardly ever pouts all the time.

Less perplexing award winners came in the form of Best Actor (Colin Firth); Empire Icon (Gary Oldman); Empire Inspriation Award (Edgar Wright) and Best Newcomer (Chloe Moretz - she chose to attend the First Annual Comedy Awards in LA instead, a gallery of which will be coming at you shortly). A list of winners can be seen below. Even yer wan from EastEnders nabbed herself one (presumably picking it up on behalf of the Four Lions crew). Then again, Sarah Hardingalso managed to gain access to the press room so anything's possible. Other points of interest include this creature; Lily Cole looking increasingly alien-like with the black hair; Ian Hislop's presumed daughter; Jessica Hynes' Leaning Tower of Pizza impression; and Chris O'Dowd out and about with his live in lady friend, "journalist" Dawn Porter.
