"They wouldn’t have won the war, would they?"
The actor who brought Hagrid to the big screen has defended the controversial author regarding her most recent book being published.
'Harry Potter' star Robbie Coltrane defends J.K. Rowling today, following backlash the author has received for her recently published work. Publishing under the pseudonym of Robert Galbraith, Rowling's 'Troubled Blood' was released today under heavy criticism.
In the fifth book of the Strike and Robin franchise, Private Detective Cormoran Strike is tasked with solving a cold murder case from 1974 - one which involves a murderous cis-gendered man who cross-dresses as a woman to kill his victims.
It might not be the worst story to tell, but when you take Rowling's scathing history with trans people's rights into account, it is causing huge upset online. In the past, Rowling has come under fire for a series of comments made on Twitter about "People who menstruate". She also defended Maya Forstater, a woman who was fired for comments she made about transgendered people.
In light of all this, Hagrid actor Robbie Coltrane defends J.K. Rowling and her most recent publication. The actor told the Radio Times: "I don’t think what she said was offensive really. I don’t know why but there’s a whole Twitter generation of people who hang around waiting to be offended.
"They wouldn’t have won the war, would they? That’s me talking like a grumpy old man, but you just think, 'Oh, get over yourself. Wise up, stand up straight and carry on'.
"I don’t want to get involved in all of that because of all the hate mail and all that sh*t, which I don’t need at my time of life."
In previous moments of Rowling and the trans community situation, other 'Harry Potter' stars spoke out against the writer for her wording. Irish star Evanna Lynch branded her remarks "irresponsible", while Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Eddie Redmayne also spoke out in opposition of her views.
