Meet Yunice of 'The Grandpa Robbers'

It's been almost six years since one of the most shocking celebrity heists of all time; the robbery of Kim Kardashian's Paris apartment during Fashion Week that has left her "traumatised". After serving just under two years in prison for the crime, one of 'The Grandpa Robbers' involved in the theft has admitted that he feels no remorse for Ms. Kardashian, even though he understands "Of course, she must have been traumatised. I don’t doubt it".

On the night of the 3rd of October 2016, a group of twelve men aged between 60 and 72-years-old broke into the boutique hotel apartment that Kim Kardashian had been staying in for Paris Fashion Week, tied her up, gagged her, and stole about nine million euro worth of her belongings.

One of the robbers, Yunice Abbas, spoke to Vice recently and claims he didn't even know who she was before the heist, but that it was easy to find out what he needed to know — she posted everything on social media; where she was at any given time and her wealth.

"So I honestly didn’t really know her. I knew her husband Kanye West. But I didn’t know her. But I saw one of her shows where she threw her diamond in the pool in that episode of ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians'".

Abbas has no guilt over the crime that changed Kardashian's life forever, "They should be a little less showy towards people who can’t afford it" he says, "For some people, it’s provocative".

He has even come out with a memoir detailing the robbery which went pretty smoothly for the 'Grandpas' that night. In this interview, he briefly walks us through it, "We got in through the little door that was open on the inside. As soon as we got in we took control of the concierge. We overpowered him."

He continued, "‘I stayed downstairs, but my two colleagues went upstairs with the concierge to go to Ms. Kardashian’s room. Then they picked up the jewellery. They went downstairs".

At one point, he recalls Kardashian's secretary making a phone-call to the authorities, but luckily for the bandits she had mistakenly called the American emergency number, buying them some time.

Although the men got away with the crime that night, he confirms that he was "easy" to trace, since he left DNA evidence behind during confrontations, and the police already had a record for the Abbas who describes himself as a "part time crook".

For Abbas, he can reconcile the crime based on the amount of money Kardashian was flaunting, given that it was literally just a drop in the ocean (yes, that's a "Kim, there's people that are dying" reference). He summarises it like this, "Since she was throwing money away, I was there to collect it, and that was that".
