Funerals can be a tough time for everyone involved.

You're sad they've died, but happy that their suffering has ended. In the end, you just want to give them the send-off they deserved. And that's exactly what Neil Johnson did for his mother, Lorna.

Lorna, who passed away at the age of 56 from lung cancer, was an avid fan of sci-fi and loved Hallowe'en. She was a huge fan of costume parties, so in keeping with his mother's interests and loves, Neil organised a fancy-dress funeral for his mother.

"Basically, Halloween was always my mum’s favourite time of year, we always had fancy dress parties. When we were deciding what to do for her funeral, it just seemed the perfect thing," Neil explained in a recent interview.

It may seem strange, but for them, it was a beautiful and fitting send-off for their mother. Lorna, who was a practicing white witch, was also a fan of deep trance music - which, of course, featured in the service itself.

In fact, the funeral home were happy enough to go along with the idea, with the funeral director even dressing up as Darth Vader.

"Lorna’s family wanted today to be a celebration of her life and we’re confident that her personality will shine through," said funeral director Brett Houghton.

Lorna's four children and ten grandchildren attended the funeral in fancy dress, with attendees taking part in the festivities as well.

It's weird - but who are we to judge?
