"Notions Level 100"
Grafton Street has been renamed - at least for the Christmas period, it would seem - and people are not happy.
Last night, the annual Christmas lights that don the popular shopping street - organised by Dublin Town - were switched on. According to the lights, it would appear the region is now called 'Grafton Quarter'.
Many have taken to Twitter to express what a terrible idea the new title it is. The word 'notions' is appearing a lot. Others are calling the re-branding pretentious.
Stop the lights 😳........... The Notions is strong with this one 🙄🤷🏻♀️ #GraftonStreet #Always Couldn’t they just have said “Welcome to Grafton” 🤷🏻♀️ 🙄 pic.twitter.com/6I3Clhf1VZ

#GraftonQuarter? 👀 Seriously? Would ye get off the stage & take your #notions with you. 🤦🏻♀️🙄
It is, was, & always will be #GraftonStreet. Yours sincerely, the proud possessor of many generations of Dub DNA. #Dublin https://t.co/2H65wg03wT— Carole (Ducky) (@IrPsych) November 13, 2019
Poll on the abomination that is the invented #GraftonQuarter. My preference? Remove all trace, never speak of it again & return ‘Nollaig Shona’ lights to #GraftonStreet. #Dublin #Notions @DubCityCouncil

Some tweeters have gone political in their reflections on the new title.
'Grafton Street's a wonderland, there's magic in the air' -Noel Purcell didn't Dublin Saunter down the Grafton Quarter! What's the next division of Dublin going to be; the poor half and the posh half split by the Liffey? #BahHumbug pic.twitter.com/8AveVTFyec

Maybe it shouldn't be called Grafton anything!
It was named after The Duke of Grafton who alongside William of Orange, pillaged innocent civilians of this country, terrorising and murdering them as he went.
Maybe let's talk about that instead!#GraftonQuater#GraftonStreet— Caolán Mc Aree (@Caolanmcaree) November 13, 2019
Crazy how people are more upset by Grafton street being called Grafton Quarter instead of the homeless crisis in Dublin https://t.co/VkCs0tOh7C
