It really only takes until the sun goes down on the first day of a festival for every walled surface to suddenly become a pissing board for male attendees, so most festival goers are used to getting an eyeful of someone relieving themselves at some point over a weekend. But this is actually taking the piss.
International development charity WaterAid is setting up a 'loo with a view' at Glastonbury this year to highlight the fact that 2.5 billion people across the world live without access to a safe, private toilet. And how are they going to achieve this? By having a bog surrounded by glass walls, that's how.
Thankfully the glass will be one-way mirrors which will allow the occupier of the toilet to see out but not for outsiders to see in while they do the deed. Unfortunately however, as the outside will act as a mirror, that means that a lot of vain prying eyes will be unknowingly cast upon the toilet user as they try and work up the courage to relieve themselves surrounded by people's eyes. It sounds genuinely terrifying.
Chris Wainwright from Water Aid told i100:
"This installation will allow a brief glimpse into the lives of those who have nowhere safe to go to the toilet and often suffer the indignity of being stared at, harassed or even attacked. This is an issue that particularly affects women and girls who often have to wait until dark to defecate in the open, making them more vulnerable to abuse"
We imagine this jax will have the smallest queue on site.
