Conor McGregor's rise to the top of the MMA mountain has been meteoric. The Dubliner has dispatched his opponents with ease thus far, propelling himself to the summit of the UFC featherweight division in record time.

His techniques are ever-evolving, capable of creating a whirlwind of violence inside the cage which no opponent in the UFC has had an answer for yet. Almost as potent as his fists, though, is McGregor's gift of the gab - an ability to get underneath an opponent's skin with a well-timed verbal assault. It's this showmanship which has made McGregor into one of the most popular fighters on planet earth,  as well as one of the most entertaining talkers in the game.

We trawled through McGregor's Twitter page and highlighted just a handful of his most amusing social media musings from this year ahead of his bout this weekend with American Dustin Poirier.
