It would seem Tom Cruise was hunting for a young bride for quite some time before managing to conquer Katie Holmes. We know there was Penelope Cruz and some (EXTREMELY hot) bird called Sofia Vergara but he also attempted to land Jennifer 'Alias' Garner, presumably before Ben Affleck wore her down. According to US Weekly, this near fabled "unauthorised" biography by Andrew Morton which, again, is "too boring" to be released outside of the States, says that "Cruise left messages on the Alias star's voice mail in 2004 asking 'if she knew what freedom was,' but his advances were rebuffed." If by the term "freedom" he means not hesitating on putting "ethics in on someone else", repeatedly saying "either you're onboard or you're not onboard" - while pretty much hijacking one's career and religion - then thankfully yes, Jennifer was fully abreast as to what 'freedom' entailed. That or she just likes her men taller.
