Sacré bleu! Eric Cantona has been arrested and cautioned for assault after a "lunchtime altercation" with a man in London's Primrose Hill area on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Telegraph, almost twenty years since assaulting football fan Matthew Simmons during a match at the nearby Selhurst Park stadium.
The Metropolitan Police released a statement about the incident, which said: "Police were called to Regents Park Road, NW1, at 12.55pm on Wednesday 12th March following reports of an assault. Officers from Camden Borough attended and a man in his mid-40s was arrested on suspicion of common assault."
"He was then taken into custody and subsequently cautioned for common assault. The victim, a man, did not require medical assistance at the scene."
It isn't currently known whether or not the victim has opted to press charges.
Cantona was no stranger to controversy during his tumultuous spell in English football with Manchester United. In one of the most iconic moments in English football history Cantona famously attacked fan Matthew Simmons in January 1995 during match between Crystal Palace and Manchester United at Selhurst Park. Cantona was initially sentenced to two weeks in prison, a term was eventually reduced to 120 hours community service instead.
As well as that, the Frenchman was banned by the FA for eight months and a total of £30,000.
Since retiring from football in 1997 Cantona has worked primarily as an actor and model.
