The incident happened during a gig in the UK over the weekend

Several high-profile pop stars have experience being hit by items thrown ay them by fans this year, with one or two even requiring medical treatment or hospitalisation.

However, Ellie Goulding experienced a different kind of scare on-stage during a gig at a festival in Portsmouth over the weekend.

The 'Starry-Eyed' singer was left reeling after being hit in the face by a pyrotechnic that went off at the wrong moment.

Goulding was lucky to escape serious injury when the fire-based explosion occurred while she was singing her song 'Miracle', with eyewitnesses reporting that she clutched her face and shouted 'F**k!' as she moved away from it.

Goulding has not addressed the matter publicly herself, although she did share an image from the incident on her Instagram stories.

She did, however, continue with her set following the incident.
