Karma does exist, at least in the world of all-round nice gal Ellen DeGeneres (or should that be Ellen DeGenerous, ba-doom pish!). When the talk show host got wind of a selfless good deed, she decided to skip a few steps of the pay-it-forward process and make sure the do-gooder was duly rewarded.

Sarah Hoidahl, a single mother who works in a restaurant in New Hampshire paid the lunch tab of two National Guard soldiers who, at the time, were not getting paid due to the US government shutdown.

Our best-friend-in-our-dreams Ellen heard about the kind-hearted waitress when the soldiers put the note she gave them instead of the bill on Facebook.

It said: "Thanks to the government shutdown the people like you that protect this country are not getting paid, however I still am. Lunch is on me thank you for serving ladies! Have a good day!" Awww.

Ellen invited Sarah on the show and after giving her $27.75 - the amount the lunch cost - she gave her a new TV set because Sarah's is broken and THEN wrote her a jumbo cheque for $10,000.

We are inspired now to dish out our own random acts of kindness, and not just because Ellen might hear about us on the grapevine. People being nice makes us warm and fuzzy and we want in on that action. (Although if Crystal Swing can get on the Ellen show...)
