Any couple that's spent more than an hour in IKEA and several hours afterwards trying to construct a coffee table will know this fact to be true - IKEA is AWFUL for relationships.
Everything comes bubbling to the surface when IKEA's involved. You work all the time. You're never present in this relationship. The fact that you haven't had sex in three months. Why are we buying this bowl, do we really need another bowl? You remind me of my mother. And so on.
Actual psychologist Dr. Ramani Durvasula explained that many couples who visit her clinic explain that their arguments begin in IKEA.
"The store literally becomes a map of relationship nightmares."
The relationship therapist prescribes couples a trip to IKEA to see how strong their relationship is and to test their communication skills.
She then tasks them with building an item from the store.
The couple report back on how the construction went because, obviously, Dr. Ramani Durvasula likes seeing relationships fall apart.
The therapist even describes one piece of furniture - the Liatorp wall-unit - as a 'Divorce-Maker'.
The key point to take away from all this is that IKEA, though beautiful, is also the devil and that sometimes, it's worth spending the extra money to get this stuff without the expense of your relationship.
