The TV host and radio presenter will receive treatment next month
While Dáithí Ó Sé made headlines in Ireland over the weekend as he revealed he had recently been treated for skin cancer, a high profile UK broadcaster has shared a similar story today.
Chris Evans made the announcement live on his Virgin Radio show this morning, telling listeners that the cancer had been caught early and was treatable.
"We need to discuss what's going on with this issue," he said. "It is a melanoma. There's this phrase called a malignant melanoma - you know once you get something, and you find out all about it - that is a redundant phrase because if it is a melanoma it is malignant.
"But it's been caught so early, just so you know, that it should be completely treatable."
Although he didn't give details on where the melanoma is, he added that he will be treated for it on September 14th.
Dáithí Ó Sé, meanwhile, told The Sunday Times that what he suspected was an ingrown hair on his eyebrow turned out to be a common form of skin cancer called basal cell carcinoma.
'I was covering it up with make-up in work and when I was taking it off after the show the spot was getting agitated and part of it would scab up and come off," he said. "I went in thinking they’d take out the freezing gas or laser it, but she was pretty sure it was a form of skin cancer."
He added that he had been given the all-clear last month and "I was told to wear factor 50 for the rest of my life, winter and summer, no matter what the weather."
