The legal battle was highlighted in the recent doc 'Framing Britney'

Britney Spears' father Jamie Spears has lost a bid to retain full rights over the singer's estate.

Jamie became the sole conservator of Britney Spears' finances and affairs when she was hospitalised in 2008.

The conservatorship is normally intended to be a temporary measure for people with diminished ability to make decisions for themselves.

The singer filed a petition in court last year to remove her father and place a financial institution as the sole conservator over her estate.

Britney's attorney, Samuel D. Ingham III, argued last year that the singer was afraid of her father and that she refused to resume her singing career while he had control over it.

While the petition was denied, private wealth management firm Bessemer Trust was appointed as a co-conservator along with James (Jamie) Spears.

Objections were raised by James Spears' attorney, Vivian Thoreen, on how the co-conservatorship would be delegated.

Mr Spears' bid for the right to delegate investment powers for the estate was rejected yesterday.

Britney Spears has sold more than 100 million records but has not performed live since October 2018. Her estate is worth $60m as of last year.

This latest comes after a new documentary titled 'Framing Britney Spears' shed new light on the pop superstar's legal situation.

A number of stars including Miley Cyrus, Bette Midler, and Sarah Jessica Parker have voiced their support of Britney. The hashtag #FreeBritney also been trending of late as a result.

The singer herself offered her response to the doc this week.
