Logan Roy, is that you?
So it turns out Brian Cox is not a big fan of method acting.
How do we know that? Well, because he gave probably the most Brian Cox response he could give when asked about the technique.
“I don’t hold a lot of the American shit, having to have a religious experience every time you play a part. It’s crap,” he said at a post-screening Q&A at the Toronto Film Festival for his upcoming film 'Prisoner’s Daughter'.
“I don’t hang onto the characters I play. I let them go through me. The thing is to be ready to accept, as an actor. You stand there, you’re ready to accept whatever is thrown at you,” he added.
In 'Prisoner’s Daughter', Cox plays Max, a convict given a compassionate release from prison after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. He then has to go live out his last days with his estranged daughter, played by Kate Beckinsale.
Speaking about the differences between his character in the upcoming film and Logan Roy on the HBO hit 'Succession', Cox said, “you just let it come through you. And you don’t get in the fucking way.”
In June it was confirmed that production on season 4 of 'Succession' was underway.
Cox previously said that he only sees the series getting a maximum of two more seasons, after which he's "done" with playing Logan Roy: "I think it needs a couple more series before it really comes to a culmination. [...] I think people are going to want two more series, but they may only get one."
Despite Cox's views on method acting, there's still a bit of Logan Roy in there somewhere.
