The actor defended his fellow Scot on TV
He is known for speaking his mind as Logan Roy in 'Succession', and it seems that Brian Cox is not afraid to do so in real life, either.
The Scottish actor was appearing on BBC One's 'Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg' show, when he was asked about Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling, and the backlash that she had received for her views on transgenderism.
The controversy began when Rowling took to Twitter in 2020 to mock an article that used the phrase 'people who menstruate', with her view being that the word used should simply have been 'women'.
She has since come under fire by the LGBTQ+ community and their allies for what they view as her anti-trans rhetoric. She has published a book under her 'Robert Galbraith' nom de plume - 'The Ink Black Heart' - which follows a public figure who is cancelled for views perceived as transphobic.
In any case, Cox feels that his fellow Scot has been treated unfairly for her views, and says that she is entitled to hold them - despite the fact that others may disagree.
"I don’t like the way she has been treated, actually," he told Kuenssberg. "Actually, I think she’s entitled to her opinion, she’s entitled to say what she feels - as a woman, she’s very much entitled to say what she feels about her own body."
He added: "There’s nobody better to say as a woman. So I do feel that people have been a bit high and mighty about their attitude towards J.K. Rowling, quite frankly."
Rowling has not yet commented.
Meanwhile, the fourth season of 'Succession' is due to air this spring.
