I felt unusually safe walking down Great Strand Street to work this morning. Instead of scurrying down the middle of the road for fear of rousing the vagrants who sleep in the doorways, I was met with no less than five Guards.
At first I thought someone had been stabbed. But they cordoned off the whole street the last time that happened. This time around, they've just placed traffic cones so no one can park and they've positioned themselves at either end of the street - in growing numbers.
First, there was five. Then as people came into EI Towers, the number grew: "There's about seven Guards outside"... "What's the story with the 15 Garda outside?"... "I just got asked for ID by the gang of Guards outside, what's going on?"
So we asked that very question. As it turns out, "A VIP is coming." Ah, that would explain the superflous police presence, but why in the name of Jaysis are they coming here? There's little by way of "attractions" on this street... Intriguing. WHO could it be?!
In short, I'm not getting much work done due to hanging out the office window. I did, however, manage to catch Brian Cowen's fleeting appearance on The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.
A fierce proud moment, t'be sure.
