He had been hospitalised earlier this month
Director John Singleton has died from a major stroke he suffered from two weeks ago.
John Singleton suffered a major stroke on April 17th, and had been hospitalised in Los Angeles ever since. He reportedly fell ill upon returning to L.A. from a trip to Costa Rica. It is believed that his family made the agonising decision to remove him from life support, following conflicting reports yesterday that the prolific director had already died.
His family have said in a statement, "It is with heavy hearts we announce that our beloved son, father and friend, John Daniel Singleton will be taken off of life support today. This was an agonising decision, one that our family made, over a number of days, with the careful counsel of John’s doctors."
Singleton was known for being the youngest ever Oscar-nomiated director for 'Boyz n the Hood' at the age of 24. He also went on to direct 'Shaft', 'Rosewood', and '2 Fast 2 Furious'. He also went on to direct episode of 'Billions', 'American Crime Story', and 'Empire'.
His family have released a statement on his passing, which documents his 51 years of life. They say that Singleton "was a loving and supporting father, son, brother and friend who believed in a higher education", and he worked with Tupac Shakur, Cuba Gooding Jr., and Regina King.
