A Turkish Court is tasked with determining whether Lord of the Rings character, Gollum is a good guy or a bad guy. Seriously.

Turkish man Bilgin Çiftçi was fired from his position in the country's public health service last year for releasing pictures of the country's President Recep Tayyip ErdoÄŸan alongside images of Gollum. Çiftçi is now being tried in Turkish court for insulting the president.

However the court has hit a snag. They're not sure if the images were actually offensive and have requested more time to figure it out. A "committee of experts" has been formed to examine the character in order to resolve whether he's good or bad. Which, as any Lord of the Rings fan knows, is a fairly complicated question.

Çiftçi could face up to two years in prison if the court's "expert examination" concludes that he insulted President ErdoÄŸan.

The court's decision was initially postponed when it turned out that neither the chief justice nor the prosecutor had seen or read Lord of the Rings. For shame!
