Pilgrim Hill tells the story of middle-aged, rural farmer Jimmy Walsh, who's main purpose in life is to take care of his livestock. and tend to the needs of his ageing father. It is hardly an eventful life for the farmer, but things take a further downward turn when a visitor comes calling one day. The films follows Jimmy along in his day to day life, and is beautifully shot throughout. It was written and directed by young Kerry man Gerard Barrett on a remarkably small budget for the success it garnered, which included Barrett winning an IFTA Rising Star award last year. Worth a watch, even if it does leave you with a heavy heart.
