Make no mistake about it - Netflix is now clearly aiming itself towards awards season, and Mudbound is just the start of it.
The film had a successful screening at Sundance Film Festival, where it won stellar reviews and audience acclaim before it was bought by Netflix for a whopping $12.5 million. The film is now firmly on the festival circuit, with another screening due to take place during this week's Toronto Film Festival and early talk of a possible Best Director nomination for Dee Rees.
The film is, according to the official press blurb, "set against the backdrop of the Mississippi Delta during the Jim Crow era after World War II, Mudbound is both a timeless and timely film following two families - one black, one white - bound together by the hardships of farm life."
Mudbound premieres on Netflix from November 17th.
