Marvel had to do something of a change-up to their original plans...
The first Marvel Disney+ series, 'Wandavision', wrapped earlier this year while their second, 'The Falcon and the Winter Soldier', concluded in recent weeks.
Both shows received a hearty welcome from MCU fans. Now we're learning a little more about what went on behind the scenes of 'Wandavision'...
Lead of the series, Wanda Maximoff, a.k.a. the Scarlet Witch (played by Elizabeth Olsen), will have her story continue in 'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness'.
The sequel is due to hit screens next year as part of Phase 4 of Marvel, and is a sequel to 2016's 'Doctor Strange'.
It turns out though that the 'Wandavision' series and movie sequel were going to cross over more closely.
Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige revealed to Rolling Stone that Marvel had struck a deal with Benedict Cumberbatch to appear in the final episode of the show as Doctor Strange.
They decided to write him out quite late in the process.
"Some people might say, ‘Oh, it would’ve been so cool to see Dr. Strange,’" Feige said. "But it would have taken away from Wanda, which is what we didn’t want to do.
"We didn’t want the end of the show to be commoditized to go to the next movie — here’s the white guy, ‘Let me show you how power works.’"
As a result, 'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' also had to be rewritten.
Feige described Marvel’s process as "a wonderful combination of very dedicated coordination, and chaos. Chaos magic."
If Doctor Strange had been part of the 'Wandavision' story, the in-universe commercials were going to be messages from Strange to Wanda.
There was also talk of Cumberbatch appearing in one of the ads.
'Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness' has a release date of March 25, 2022.
