One of Netflix's major coups in recent years was successfully revitalising the true crime documentary genre with the incredible Making A Murderer, which detailed the murder of Teresa Halbach and the two men convicted of the crime, Steven Avery and Brendan Dassey.

The fallout from the documentary has meant that both Dassey and Avery have legal challenges to their convictions underway, but now a sort-of sequel series is being planned to take a view from the other side of the divide in the case. Convicting A Murderer will, according to the official press blurb on the series, have "unprecedented access to District Attorney Ken Kratz, Lead Investigator Tom Fassbender, and other major players in State v. Avery," as well as examining "the case and the allegations of police wrongdoing from a broader perspective."

The series, which is being produced by Shawn Hech - who worked on the Showtime documentary, A Murder In The Park - is currently being shopped to streaming services include Netflix, and is being touted as a direct answer to the criticisms levelled against documentary makers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos' work on Making A Murderer.

Meanwhile, Making A Murderer's second season is still slated to appear on Netflix at some stage, however no official release date has been confirmed for it.
