'The Irishman' arrives on Netflix in late November.
Although it's not out on Netflix until November 27th and won't arrive in select Irish cinemas until early November, the reviews for 'The Irishman' are in and it's looking good for Scorsese and co.'s chances at this year's Oscars.
The first reviews for the movie landed last night and currently places 'The Irishman' at 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, with near-perfect scores right across the board. The Guardian, BBC.com, Collider and Time Out all scored the movie 4 out of 5, or 9 out of 10 while Den of Geek scored it 4.5 out of 5.
Meanwhile, /Film gave it a full 10 out of 10 rating while Consequence of Sound, The Playlist, and The AV Club scored it an 'A' rating.
The movie, which stars Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Harvey Keitel and Ray Romano uses digital de-aging on some of the actors in order to show them across the ages. While many believed it wouldn't necessarily work, most of the reviews note that it was actually more a feature than a bug.
In The AV Club's review by AA Dowd, "this magic trick speaks to the unreliable unreality of memory itself: We’re not so much seeing the young Frank as we’re seeing the version of him that exists in his own mind, vaguely younger in appearance but not moving exactly as a young man does. It’s a “problem” with (potentially accidental) resonance."
