The second season ended yesterday on Prime Video, but it'll be some time before it returns.
After the mind-blowing (literally) finale of the second season of 'The Boys', the cliffhanger it's left is one that's bound to have people coming back for more.
The big reveal at the end of the season was, of course, that the telekinetic assassin who'd been popping people's brains out of their skulls was none other than Congresswoman Victoria Neuman, who was herself an asset of Vaught Industries the whole time.
In the comics on which 'The Boys' is based, Vic Neuman is closer to George W. Bush than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and is shown to be something of a dumbass compared to how calculating Victoria Neuman is. More pointedly, Neuman ends up serving as Vice President. Speaking to Collider, however, showrunner Eric Kripke said it's a while off before we'll see the character in the White House.
"She’s still just a junior Congresswoman,” Kripke told Collider, “so I think a presidential run is a little far. But we might be heading somewhere in that direction.”
As for Stormfront, despite the utterly gruesome way in which she was left, the character still somehow survived - although it'd probably have been better if she died. "What was important for us is, we felt a fate worse than death for that stumpy little Nazi was for someone who’s so believed in some kind of Aryan master race to become mutilated for potentially decades or centuries."
"I mean, she ages very slow. So being trapped in that state felt like the right punishment for her. We call her Stumpfront now, and she richly deserves it," Kripke told Collider. Another point that came up in Stormfront's truly disturbing backstory was how Vaught Industries was born out of Nazi experiments, but was then co-opted by the Americans.
Season 3 of 'The Boys' will see a new character - Soldier Boy - thawed out and brought back to life to explore more of how "supes" came to be such a part of the world of the show, itself borrowing from Operation Paperclip - the real-life US program that saw the Americans recruiting Nazi scientists in the aftermath of World War II.
Soldier Boy, played by 'Supernatural' star Jensen Ackles, is something of an early prototype of Homelander, and lead a team called Payback before The Seven was even created.
"Through the history of the supes," Kripke told EW, "we can tell a little bit about the history of America and how we ended up in the current fraught position that we're in. Soldier Boy gives us an opportunity to do that."
No air date has been set for Season 3 of 'The Boys' just yet.
